Series of paintings from the "Doppelgänger" oeuvre.

 Sebastian Bieniek (B1EN1EK) is an artist who started his career at the Kunsthaus Tacheles 1998.
He workes with painting, conceptual art and photography.

Doppelgänger is a series of currently ten paintings by Sebastian Bieniek.

 

The paintings were made between 2018 and 2019.

 

As with many of the artist's works, this one also deals with the topic of duality.

 

"Doppelganger" has been a synonym for the incomprehensibility of duality since the 19th century. How can there be the same thing twice? Can an individual occur twice or is the individuality itself the opposite of any multiplication.

 

However this question is answered, it is one of the key issues in almost every culture and time, and every culture and time has different answers to that question. One almost wants to say that the time and the culture can be determined by the answer of this question.
